How it Works?

Sahalia Funeral Society – Islamic Death Committee

Sahalia Funeral Society operates as an Islamic death committee dedicated to supporting our community during the most challenging moments. Our system is built on cooperation, shared responsibility, and the Islamic principle of helping one another in times of need. Below is an overview of how our membership and services work.

Membership

Individuals or families can join Sahalia Funeral Society by paying an annual membership fee. Each household member over the age of 18 contributes £50 per year. These contributions form a shared community fund that ensures every enrolled family receives organised, dignified, and timely support when facing a loss.

Once a female family member reaches the age of 18, she will no longer be included under the family membership. While joining is optional, please note that membership coverage will only continue if she registers and pays the annual fee. Membership applies to all family members over 18.

By becoming a member, individuals gain access to the committee’s complete range of funeral support services, providing peace of mind for themselves and their loved ones.

Funeral Support Services

When a member passes away, their family can request:

  • Complete Funeral Management
  • The committee can take full responsibility for all funeral-related arrangements, including:
  • Coordination with hospitals and funeral homes
  • Transportation of the deceased
  • Ghusl and shrouding
  • Burial arrangements
  • Liaison with cemetery staff
  • Timely organisation of all necessary procedures
  • This allows the family to focus on grieving and supporting one another without the stress of logistical planning.
  • Financial Assistance Only
  • If the family prefers to handle the funeral themselves, they may request financial support from the society to help cover funeral-related expenses.

Islamic Funeral Rites

We ensure every funeral is carried out according to Islamic teachings and traditions. This includes:

  • Ritual washing of the deceased (Ghusl)
  • Shrouding in the kafan (white burial cloth)
  • Burial as soon as possible, ideally within 24 hours
  • Coordination of the Janazah (funeral prayer), either at the mosque or cemetery

All services are performed with care, dignity, and strict adherence to Islamic guidelines by trained volunteers or appointed personnel.

Community-Funded Financial Support

All membership fees are pooled into a collective fund that supports funeral costs for registered members. This shared-resource system reduces or removes the financial burden from grieving families, ensuring:

  • Immediate support
  • Reduced stress
  • Reliable, compassionate assistance during difficult times

Whether providing full management or partial financial aid, the fund ensures that every member is cared for with respect and dignity.
